About

Hi I am Beth Ann Lee, the creator and life force behind this Philadelphia based mom blog Pencils&Persimmon.com.  Fueled by my passion for food, mindset and DIY, Pencils and Persimmon is a place where mom’s can come to gather inspiration in creating a more balanced enriched life.

While showcasing my colorful life, I also bring a background in communication, education and technology.  This unique skill set has strengthened my innate ability to create life moments with unforgettable detail.  I incorporate delicious food, home improvement, self-care and education to provide a fun daily routine for my family.  I hope to help any mom that feels they need more balance and moments of living in the present.

In my work life I currently run a Virtual Assistant business where I bring balance to other small business owners.  It has been a dream turned reality to amplify other female entrepreneurs in their business endeavors.  Not only am I a mom that has time for cooking, fun crafting projects, and self-care, I am able to help provide for my family in a way that humbles me everyday.

A little more about my background.  I have a Bachelor’s of Arts in Communication from Penn State University and a Masters of Elementary Education from St. Joseph’s University.  In my past professional career as a teacher I worked tirelessly to create content that engaged and challenged my students.  I loved many aspects of teaching but came to a defining moment when I realized I wanted to help others create a positive mindset around a healthy work life balance.  All of my education and life experiences prepared me to be ready for this opportunity to write and share my life and perspectives with others.

I have discovered how important it is to be present in your day to day.  To really cherish the moments we have with loved ones, creating memories and feelings that bring us closer together.  Especially as a mom, providing moments of relaxation and incorporating self-care into everyday has proved to be such a positive force for me. It helps me be the best version of myself and to make the most of every learning experience.

The Root of Our Name

Pencils stems from my background in education and my love for crafting even as a young child.  I love making things with my hands, creating something from nothing and writing imaginative ideas on paper.

Persimmons represents the fusion of family’s culture in food, traditions and childhood memories.  Persimmons are a bright and beautiful fruit that takes on many forms of flavor depending on their stage of ripening.  As they ripen their outer skin ever so slightly tightens only to to deepen the flavor of the inside sugary custard like goodness, it shows us that regardless of your exterior the inside is what matters most.
